Ten thousand pounds is the budget at which the Rolex catalogue opens up properly. Below it you are choosing between a handful of models; at it, you can have almost any classic Rolex that is not a Daytona or a Day-Date. We currently hold 1258 watches under £10,000 out of 2376 in stock. These are the ones worth your attention.
Datejust 36 — the one to beat

Nothing else at this price does as many jobs. A steel Datejust 36 works with a suit, a wetsuit and everything between; it is the most recognisable Rolex silhouette after the Submariner; and there are more of them than of any other reference, which keeps prices honest and choice enormous.
Our Datejusts start at £3,550. At the ten-thousand mark you are looking at a recent 126200 or 126234 in excellent condition, quite possibly with box and papers.
Oyster Perpetual 36 or 41 — the purist's answer
From £2,600, the Oyster Perpetual gives you the same case, bracelet and movement quality as the Datejust with a cleaner dial and a lower price. The 41mm 124300 with its 70-hour calibre 3230 is the standout, and it sits comfortably inside this budget.
Air-King — the underrated one
The Air-King is the least fashionable Rolex and therefore the best value in the catalogue. Our 65 examples run from £3,070 to £8,500. The 2016 reference 116900 with its 3-6-9 dial and green-and-yellow branding is a genuinely distinctive watch that almost nobody else at your table will be wearing.
Submariner — but only just
Our Submariners open at £6,595. At under ten thousand you are into earlier references — the 14060M No-Date, the 16610 Date, or a well-loved 16800 — rather than a current 126610. That is not a compromise. A 16610 is a superb watch and a proven store of value.
Lady-Datejust — the most watch for the money
If a 31mm or 28mm case suits you, the Lady-Datejust is the single best value in Rolex. Our 345 examples start at £3,125, and solid gold — real, hallmarked, 18ct gold — is achievable well inside £10,000 in a way it simply is not in men's sizes.
What we would avoid at this budget
Anything with a story you cannot verify. At ten thousand pounds you have enough buying power to insist on a watch with clean provenance, an honest condition grade and, ideally, box and papers — we hold 1189 full sets. Do not spend it on a bargain that comes with an explanation.

Frequently Asked Questions
At retail, yes — several. Getting an authorised dealer to sell you one is the difficulty. The pre-owned market has no waiting list.
A well-bought steel sports Rolex has held value historically. Buy it to wear and treat value retention as insurance, not a plan.
Only if you want a Submariner. A better-condition Datejust beats a tired Submariner every time.
